The iconic Tropicana hotel towers in Las Vegas are slated for demolition in early October to pave the way for the future Oakland Athletics' stadium.

Bally's Corporation, along with the Athletics, has announced a special event on October 8 to mark the occasion. The celebration will feature a stunning fireworks and drone display, courtesy of Fireworks by Grucci, with the grand finale being the implosion of the towers. The demolition itself is scheduled for approximately 2:30 a.m. on October 9.

Before the implosion can proceed, Bally’s Corporation is awaiting final approval from Clark County for the necessary permit, which could be granted up to a week before the event.

Once the Rat Pack-era Tropicana is reduced to rubble, construction crews will begin preparing the site for the Oakland A’s new stadium. The $1.5 billion ballpark is set to break ground in April, with an estimated construction timeline of three years. The Athletics aim to be ready for their first game in Las Vegas by the 2028 MLB season.

However, a few key agreements between the A’s, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, and Clark County must still be finalized before construction can begin. Among the four required agreements, the community benefits agreement has already been approved. The development, lease, and non-relocation agreements are in progress and expected to be completed by early December, according to Steve Hill, Chairman of the Stadium Authority.

This significant project marks a new chapter for both the Tropicana site and professional sports in Las Vegas.
