About MGM Grand

MGM Grand sits at the busy corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue on the south-central Strip. Pedestrian bridges connect it toward New York-New York and the Tropicana corridor, and the MGM Grand monorail station provides a useful route north. The resort's scale is the first thing visitors should understand: it can take a long time to walk from a room to the Strip, pool, arena, restaurants, or rideshare pickup.

The hotel has a wide assortment of newly remodeled rooms and suites, starting with compact 350-square-foot Studio King rooms and expanding through standard rooms, Restore by MGM categories, and large multi-bedroom suites. View, tower, and room type matter greatly in a building this large, so travelers should compare square footage and location instead of booking purely by price. The resort is busy around the clock and is better suited to guests who enjoy energy than those seeking an intimate retreat.

The 6.5-acre Grand Pool Complex is a major selling point, with four pools, three whirlpools, waterfalls, cabanas, food and drink service, and a popular lazy river. It can support a full pool day for families, couples, and groups, although operations are seasonal and free seating is first-come, first-served. Palm Tree Beach Club supplies a separate DJ-driven dayclub experience for visitors seeking a party scene.

The sprawling casino has a large slot selection, table games, poker, high-limit gaming, and a BetMGM sportsbook. Dining ranges from food-court convenience to restaurants associated with Morimoto, Tom Colicchio, and Joël Robuchon. Hakkasan nightlife, bars, a full spa, and Topgolf extend the experience beyond the casino floor.

Entertainment is another strength. KÀ by Cirque du Soleil, comedy and dance shows, and major concerts, fights, and sporting events at MGM Grand Garden Arena make the property a practical choice when the event itself is the purpose of the trip. The resort is also connected by indoor walkway to the quieter, non-gaming Signature towers.

MGM Grand is best for active first-time visitors, groups, sports and concert fans, pool lovers, and travelers who want virtually everything under one roof. It is less appealing for guests with mobility concerns, people who dislike crowds and smoke, or anyone hoping for a boutique experience. Resort fees, parking, reserved pool seating, and the property's many paid attractions can push the final cost well beyond the headline room rate.

Best For

  • Concert and show travelers who want entertainment inside their hotel
  • Groups comparing several room sizes and bedding configurations
  • Guests who want casino gaming, dining and nightlife in one large resort
  • Pool-focused stays when the seasonal facilities are operating

Consider The Tradeoffs

  • A Strip address can still involve long walks through large resorts, bridges, and indoor corridors
  • Resort fees, parking charges, deposits, and amenity schedules can change; compare the final checkout total for the exact dates
  • Room location, renovation generation, bedding, and view can materially change the experience
  • This is a large casino resort; gaming areas, crowds and substantial internal walks may not suit a quiet retreat.

Rooms and what to book

The hotel has a wide assortment of newly remodeled rooms and suites, starting with compact 350-square-foot Studio King rooms and expanding through standard rooms, Restore by MGM categories, and large multi-bedroom suites. The candid bottom line

Choose the room and the right theater

The room names make a practical difference: Studio King is 350 square feet with a maximum of two guests; MGM King is 446 square feet with a maximum of three; MGM Two Queen has the same footprint with a maximum of four. Check the booking’s exact occupancy and bedding rather than assuming every king room works for a third traveler. The current wellness room collection is called Restore by MGM. MGM Grand Theater and MGM Grand Garden Arena are different venues. Now You See Me Live begins its U.S. run at MGM Grand Theater on October 15, 2026; check a dated performance before choosing your stay. A ticket labeled MGM Grand should be matched to its actual theater before making dinner and pickup plans. Compare a room-only stay with a ticket package by the specific seats, room nights and cancellation terms included.

Our experience at the MGM Grand Las Vegas was outstanding from beginning to end. Utilizing the MGM app for check-in made the process quick and seamless. We skipped the front desk entirely and went straight to our room with the digital key—super convenient! The room itself was spotless, stylish, and extremely comfortable, equipped with everything necessary for an enjoyable stay. Despite not having a view of the Strip, the room’s quiet and well-designed space provided a wonderfully relaxing environment. The MGM Grand exudes a lively and energetic atmosphere. With excellent dining choices, top-notch entertainment, and attentive staff, everything was spot-on. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and are definitely planning to return.

The MGM Grand offers rooms that could use some updating, though the rates are reasonable. Be prepared for extended waits during check-in, typically around 20-30 minutes. A significant drawback for me was the hotel's refusal to accept Marriott Bonvoy benefits when booked through a well-known travel agency.

The MGM Grand in Las Vegas offers a well-known name and prime location, but the experience comes with certain drawbacks. The beds proved uncomfortable, and the rooms appeared somewhat worn, likely due to the high volume of guests. Parking is situated at quite a distance from the main facilities, so be prepared for a lengthy walk. During the stay, there were three notable inconveniences, the most significant being a lack of water for a few hours, which guests were not informed about in advance. Additional charges, such as resort fees and parking, contributed to an unexpectedly high bill. Despite booking my stay through AAA, which mentioned possible extra fees, I was unprepared for the cost to nearly double. A complaint was filed prior to checking out, and as compensation for the issues experienced, the parking fee was waived.
