Thomas Wesley Pentz built the Diplo name in Philadelphia’s early-2000s mash-up scene as part of Hollertronix, then reached a far larger audience through his work with M.I.A., including production on “Paper Planes.” He went on to found Mad Decent and co-create Major Lazer, whose “Lean On,” “Cold Water” and “Light It Up” brought dancehall and global club influences into mainstream pop. Jack Ü, his project with Skrillex, produced the Grammy-winning Justin Bieber collaboration “Where Are Ü Now,” while LSD with Labrinth and Sia revealed another melodic side of his work.

The breadth of those projects explains why a Diplo set is difficult to reduce to one genre. He can connect house, bass music, hip-hop, dancehall, Latin rhythms and pop vocals because his career has moved through all of them. More recent country-influenced recordings and house releases add to that flexibility. For visitors, this means the set may not linger on every famous song, but it is unlikely to remain in one lane for long.

Diplo Las Vegas appearances currently center on XS Nightclub, Encore Beach Club and Encore Beach Club at Night. A daytime pool set generally favors immediate, warm-weather energy; an XS date can move deeper into house or harder club records while using the venue’s indoor-outdoor layout.
