The inaugural Super Bowl held in Las Vegas made history not only with its on-field action but also with the staggering amount of bets placed on the game. Nevada's sportsbooks saw a remarkable influx of wagers, totaling $185.6 million, breaking the previous state record set in 2022 by a significant margin. The Gaming Control Board revealed these figures on Monday night, highlighting the immense popularity of betting on the Super Bowl.

The game itself saw the Kansas City Chiefs emerge victorious in a thrilling overtime encounter against the San Francisco 49ers, clinching their second consecutive Super Bowl title and their third in five years, despite entering the game as 2-point underdogs.

The record-breaking betting numbers can be contributed to various factors, including the matchup featuring a West Coast team, the presence of the defending champions, and, likely most notable, the game being held in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.

Although the excitement among bettors translated into an extraordinary handle, Nevada's sportsbooks saw a relatively modest win percentage of 3.7 percent, marking the fourth-lowest in the past decade. This was largely due to the betting public heavily favoring the Chiefs and scoring big on the overtime prop, which paid out at 9-1 odds, a rare occurrence in Super Bowl history.

Furthermore, Las Vegas played host to several high-stakes bets, with five $1 million wagers placed on the game originating from the city.
