K6mYx4L left a 5 star review for Big AL's Oyster Bar

We visited Big Al's Oyster Bar about 45 minutes before closing time and were pleased that they accommodated us, even though we knew we wanted to eat quickly. We ordered the Louisiana crab cakes, which were delicious and filled with crab meat, paired with a tasty creole mustard sauce. We enjoyed them so much that we ordered a second serving. The salad was also generous in crab meat, with crispy bacon hidden underneath. We asked for ranch dressing on the side, which was a good call as it prevented the salad from being drowned in dressing. The seafood chowder was a standout dish, filled with clams, shrimp, crab, and fish. It was hearty, flavorful, and surprisingly not too salty. We noticed the New England chowder at a neighboring table, which looked thick and rich, but we were happy with our choice of the seafood chowder. The prices were great, but the atmosphere was just average, as the restaurant is located in the older, off-strip Orleans property. Don't expect the glitz and glamour of the strip hotels here; it's a no-frills spot that shows its age.
