It is always difficult to leave a negative review, but unfortunately, my recent dining experience at Big AL's Oyster Bar was far from satisfactory. I must admit that the chef who prepared our main dish did an exceptional job, as I remembered him from previous visits and he truly excels in his craft. However, the overall quality of the restaurant has declined significantly since my last visit before Covid. Upon arrival, we requested bar seating to avoid a long wait. The hostess took our phone number and assured us it would only take a few minutes to prepare the bar area. However, after 15 minutes of waiting at the podium, my husband noticed that there were several available tables and bar seats. We finally sat down and I ordered the seafood gumbo, which was inedible. It was extremely thick, salty, and tasted like it had been cooked days before. I exchanged it for the clam chowder, which was equally disappointing with its overly thick consistency. Throughout the meal, I observed tension between the staff and the manager, with the employee behind the counter visibly struggling. Service was chaotic, with waitresses rushing to attend to customers and fulfill orders. We had to repeatedly remind our waitress to take our orders and bring us drinks and food. We decided to order a dozen oysters for $45, which were not worth the price in terms of quality. Feeling disappointed and disgusted by the food, we ultimately left. Despite the friendly attitude of the manager towards the end of our meal, the overall experience was subpar compared to previous visits. If you do choose to dine at Big AL's Oyster Bar, I recommend sticking to dishes prepared by the head chef and avoiding the soups, gumbo, and salads. Proceed with caution and be prepared for a potentially disappointing dining experience, as the restaurant seems to have lost the charm it once had.

I absolutely adore Big AL's Oyster Bar. I've dined here multiple times and the food never disappoints. The service is top-notch, with a super-friendly waitress who actually remembered me from one visit to the next, even with months in between. A must-visit spot in Las Vegas for sure!

Looking for delicious gumbo at a reasonable price without the long lines at other oyster bars in Las Vegas? Look no further than Big AL's Oyster Bar. I recently enjoyed a seafood chowder and Caesar salad for just $13. The atmosphere was great, and even though I passed on the strawberry lager, I had a fantastic time at the bar on a Monday. The gumbo at Big AL's is a must-try!

The Louisiana crab cakes, Seafood chowder, and Big Al's Pan Roast at Big AL's Oyster Bar were all delicious. The flavors were well blended and seasoned perfectly, and everything was served hot. While the service started off mediocre, it did improve and became a more pleasant experience. I highly recommend trying the Big Al's Pan Roast, with shrimp and crab simmered in brandy, white wine, bell peppers, and spices, finished with a rich lobster and tomato cream sauce. It was so good that we had to take some back to our Airbnb because there was so much food. The atmosphere at the restaurant was lively, as it is located in a casino. After your meal, you can enjoy a movie or continue your evening in the casino. Overall, the food was great and I had a positive experience at Big AL's Oyster Bar.

What I Disliked

This review is going to be a negative one, unfortunately. The dining experience at Big AL's Oyster Bar was truly terrible. If it were possible, I would give this place negative stars. The only redeeming quality was the chef who prepared the main dish - he was hardworking, friendly, and talented. I had visited this restaurant years ago before Covid and it was a completely different experience. The food was fresh and the service was exceptional. However, in 2024, things have taken a turn for the worse. We requested bar seating to avoid a long wait but ended up waiting over 15 minutes for them to clean the counter, even though there were available tables and bar seats. The seafood gumbo I ordered was inedible - thick, salty, and clearly not fresh. I tried the clam chowder as a replacement and it was just as bad. The caesar salad was basic at best. Throughout the meal, there was an uncomfortable tension between the staff and the manager, with one employee even walking off. The service was chaotic and we had to constantly ask for everything. We ordered a dozen oysters for $45, which was not a bad price but the quality was lacking. After spending over $100, we left feeling disappointed and disgusted. The manager was friendly but it was too little, too late. It's clear that Big AL's Oyster Bar has declined from its former glory days. Proceed with caution if you choose to dine here. I would recommend sticking to dishes prepared by the head chef and avoiding the soups, gumbo, and salads.

We arrived at Big Al's Oyster Bar near closing time and the staff was kind enough to accommodate us even though we weren't very hungry. We quickly placed our order for the Louisiana crab cakes, which were full of crab meat and paired perfectly with the creole mustard sauce. We enjoyed them so much that we ordered a second round. The salad was also delicious, packed with crab meat and topped with crispy bacon. We asked for ranch dressing on the side to avoid overpowering the salad with it. The seafood chowder was a highlight of the meal, with clams, shrimp, crab, and fish in a hearty and flavorful broth. Surprisingly, the chowder wasn't overly salty. We noticed the New England chowder at a neighboring table and were pleased with our choice of the seafood chowder. The prices were reasonable, but the atmosphere at Big Al's Oyster Bar was nothing special. Located in the older Orleans hotel, don't expect the glitz and glamour of strip properties. It's a no-frills establishment that shows its age, but the food more than makes up for it.
