The Painted Desert Golf Club is located 20 to 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. It boasts a championship design, as it is the former home of the Nevada Open.
Painted Desert was the first desert golf course in the Las Vegas area and continues to be one of the most popular for visitors and locals alike. Before you take in the course, you can get in some practice on the driving range, the putting green, the chipping green, and the practice bunkers. The course itself was designed by highly respected Jay Moorish, and for decades now the course has stood the test of time. The fairways are laid with ryegrass or Bermuda grass, depending on the season. Everything is beautifully maintained for a great round of golf. Unlike some desert courses, the greens are not hard and dry, but soft and resilient. The course is designed to be challenging, yet still entertaining for novice golfers. Equipment is available for rent on site, and there is also a full-service restaurant and banquet space available for private events.

What I Disliked
Despite the narrow fairways and residential surroundings, Painted Desert Golf Club has a certain appeal that will captivate many golfers. The course features several holes that offer stunning views of water features, making for a picturesque backdrop during your round. I gave this course a three-star rating due to some issues we faced while playing. Our tee times were only 7 minutes apart, resulting in a 20-minute delay to our morning start time. This, in turn, led to a pace of play that stretched to nearly 5 hours. The main cause of the slow pace was frequent waits at tee boxes. Some might find the absence of a roaming marshal and the lack of free range balls to be dealbreakers.

This golf course is a fantastic choice for those seeking a semi-desert setting. The fairways may be narrow, but they are forgiving, and the greens are easily reachable. The course was in great condition when I played in June. I found the layout to be enjoyable and the staff went above and beyond to provide exceptional service. When our cart broke down on the 15th hole, they quickly brought us a replacement. I would rate my experience at Painted Desert Golf Club as 4.7 stars overall.

While the narrow fairways and residential setting might not suit every golfer's taste, there's undeniable charm to this golf course. Several holes hug sparkling water features, providing picturesque backdrops for your shots. My three-star rating reflects some speed bumps we encountered during our round. Tee times spaced mere 7 minutes apart led to a 20-minute delay for our morning start, and the overall pace stretched to nearly 5 hours. Frequent waits at tee boxes were the main culprit, and while the lack of a roaming marshal and free range balls might be dealbreakers for some.

This is a fun course tucked away in a residential area. Not a destination course, but I play it just about every time I visit LV. Staff is always friendly and helpful in a neighborly way. I wish the HOA would keep the condo grounds in as good of condition as the course is! Got home to CO and found that we grabbed the wrong size shirt. Pro shop staff was totally helpful in making sure we got it swapped corrected.

Love this course. Beautiful landscaping and Mountain View’s. I got the Arcis club card and it’s only $20 to golf here in the afternoons. Plus I love the free hotdog and beer they offer with an afternoon round. Will be back!

Average playability And... Semi friendly pro shop staff, (SMILE MORE, engage more), please. Felt not that welcomed compared to other courses and I paid $75 in cab fare alone to get there but I did not let it discourage me. Rained lots but played through it. Then paid another $75 to get back to hotel! The club rentals were just ok and just way overpriced! Paid $86 extra CDN dollars for just some rentals and when it should have been more like $30 US dollars to rent these! Not even any balls included/offered like most other courses do! For this rate it was a let down and a shame actually. No on the course yardage markers or not visible at all makes it more guessing on exact yards to the flag stick! This to me is Mickey Mouse action. Sticking to 3 stars as the greens were nice enough and my server at very end was so nice and a saving grace to this round today. The restaurant was nicely set up and inviting. Nov 8/22.
